Wickford Art Festival is this weekend

Posted

Produced by the Wickford Art Association since 1962, the renowned Wickford Art Festival returns this week. More than 200 juried fine artists from across the state and country will assemble to showcase their diverse work in an open-air festival.

More than 325 artists applied this year, and 200 were accepted to exhibit their work in a diverse range of mediums, including ceramics, wood, wearable and decorative fiber, furniture, fine jewelry, drawing, etching, glass, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, pyrography, and sculptures.

Food trucks onsite will include Sunset Farm, Gansett Poke, Newport Chowder Company, Sam’s NY System, Mumsy’s Ice Cream, Little B’s BBQ, and Kettle Corn Express, plus Del’s Lemonade and North Koffee.

Explore your own “Path to Creativity” and create your own peace flag with the Eco-Land Art Project. Follow the Bush Hill Trail to find live music by local artists at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. First Baptist Church of Wickford will be serving strawberry shortcakes, along with more family fun, crafts and entertainment all weekend.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
