William Ferreira, age 93, died peacefully, at the R.I. Veterans Home on Friday, March 26, 2021. He was the husband of the late Roseline (Roderick) Ferreira.
Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Gilberto and Rosa (Oliveira) Ferreira. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church. He worked 33 years for Kaiser Aluminum Corp. and was a proud member of the Ever-Ready Engine & Hose Co. for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He spent the last six years at the RI Veterans Home, where he had good care and many friends.
He enjoyed a good laugh, playing cards, and watching sports, especially, football and baseball. He was a devoted grandfather, who shared each milestone and every sporting event. He was proud to be honored by Portsmouth Pop Warner Football, for his seven-year presence and program support. He was an avid hat wearer, with over 100 varieties in his collection.
He is survived by his son, William Ferreira Jr. of Bristol, and his daughter, Lyn Brigham and her husband Bob of Portsmouth, R.I. He had a special relationship with his two grandsons, Benjamin, and Matthew Brigham. In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his five brothers, Manuel, Gilbert, Joseph, Anthony and Edward Ferreira.
All are welcome to join a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol.
Burial with Military Honors will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to benefit the R.I. Veterans Home at 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI 02809.
