Young children found walking unattended down middle of Barrington roads

Unrelated incidents occur early Saturday morning, May 3

Barrington Police responded to a call for a toddler found standing in the middle of a street around 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 3.

Then they received a call for a very similar incident in a different part of town 35 minutes later.

A resident called police at 7:05 a.m. and reported that a child was standing in the middle of Sweetbriar Road screaming. Police officers responded and located the child — police said the child was three years old. Officers then noticed the door to a nearby home was wide open. Police went to the house and eventually located the child’s mother asleep in an upstairs bedroom. Police woke the woman and reunited her with her child. Police said the three-year-old was OK. Police later notified DCYF about the situation.

At about 7:40 a.m., police received multiple calls for a young child in a t-shirt, sweatpants and bare feet walking down the middle of Sowams Road, near the intersection with Coach Murgo Lane. Police responded to the location and found the child, a five-year-old. The child showed police to his home, which was close by. Police found an adult at the house and returned the child to the residence. Police notified DCYF about the incident.
