Letter: Kindness Matters website — help us spread the good in Tiverton

To the editor:

Let’s face it, it’s been tough all over for many people for many different reasons.  While there are many difficulties in the world, there is also a lot of good in the world and in people. Sometimes it is just hard to notice the good when we are going through tough times.

So, we came up with an idea:

We want to hear about and celebrate kind acts that are happening in and around Tiverton.

The “kind acts” don’t have to be something big. They can be that a neighbor helped shovel another neighbor’s driveway, maybe someone paid for your coffee or someone dropped off a meal for you when you needed it. They could be big things too!

However, the point is that ALL acts of kindness, big or small, are important in life as they have a ripple effect.  Anyone who experiences or just sees the kind act can be positively affected, including the person doing the kind act. We want to expand that positive ripple!

Eat-in restaurants have been one of the industries hit hard by the pandemic. Therefore, we want to support the local restaurants in Tiverton by listing them on our website and purchasing a gift card to some as prizes. We invite you to support all local restaurants, we just happen to be focusing on Tiverton restaurants for this community project.

Here’s how it works:

  • We have a generous anonymous donor who is donating money for the gift cards! How kind is that?
  • • During several two-week periods we will ask people to nominate someone who lives in or around Tiverton who did something kind in 2020 or 2021. Each letter will be posted on the website for others to enjoy reading.
  • • We will randomly pick a name from the list of people nominated and will mail them a gift card to a dine-in restaurant in Tiverton that is also randomly picked.
  • Nominating someone is also a kind act! So, at the end of the sweepstakes, we will pick one submitter to randomly receive a gift card as well.

We will do this from 2/7/21- 4/3/21

To participate and for more info, please check out this website:  https://kindnessmatterstiv.wixsite.com/mysite

Please help us spread a little kindness by nominating someone!
