To the editor:
The town solicitor can disagree with petitioners about whether petitioner budgets can or should use any of the town’s surplus funds - anticipated to be over $10 million next year - for tax relief, but the effect of the proposed budgets on the tax levy is not open for debate.
The numbers are clear: the Pallasch/Farnworth budget would result in a 2.1% increase over last year in the total tax levy, rather than the 3.6% increase recommended by the Budget Committee budget. Anyone quoting a number higher than this 2.1% increase for our budget proposal either has not looked at the budget documents, does not understand them, or is intentionally trying to mislead taxpayers. See for yourself (attached graphic).
