Posted

Noel Berg of Tiverton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 7, 2021. He was 92.

Noel was born to Roland and Helen Berg of Brooklyn, NY, and attended Erasmus Hall High School. After graduating from Columbia University, he served in Korea with the US Army as an Ordnance Engineer. Upon his return, he embarked on an extensive career as a Professional Engineer working for Boeing, Convair, and other companies in the aerospace industry. Noel spent the last 30 years before retirement with the Draper Laboratory of Cambridge, Mass.

In addition to his family and beloved dog, Noel’s many passions included piloting, boating, scuba diving, fishing, and gardening. During retirement, Noel donated much of his time serving on various boards and committees for the betterment of Tiverton and the state of Rhode Island.

Noel had a kind and generous heart.  He was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He had a brilliant mind, an unassuming manner, and a keen sense of humor.  He touched the lives of many. His presence and generosity of self will be greatly missed.

Noel is survived by his wife Irene, son Gary, daughters Susan and Marcia, and grandchildren Elizabeth and Natalie.

Services, per request, will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to a humanitarian charity of your choice.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
