Portsmouth Police arrest Warren man on drug charges

PORTSMOUTH — A 45-year-old Warren man was arrested last week on drug charges after being pulled over for speeding, police said. 

While on patrol in the area of Bristol Ferry Road at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, officers observed a vehicle traveling at about 42 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to police. The officers had prior knowledge that the driver did not have a valid license to operate the vehicle, police said.

The driver, Ryan J. Perkins, of 593 Main St., Warren, attempted to conceal suspected narcotics within the palm of his had as he exited the vehicle, according to police. 

Two grams of suspected cocaine and 23 suspected Percocet pills fell onto the ground while Perkins was being secured in handcuffs, police said.

Perkins was charged with took counts of possession of a controlled substance and was held at the police station pending his arraignment, police said.

Monday, Aug. 21

Kyle R. McDevitt, 41, of 62 Taylor Road, was charged was arrested on a warrant and charged with filling a false report of a crime following a traffic stop on Route 24 North near the Main Road exit in Tiverton around 5:35 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 22

Gary Raymond Larson, 56, of 1 Lafayette Drive, Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense, shortly before 4 p.m. Responding to a report of a motor vehicle accident, officers observed a wrecked vehicle on the train tracks away from the roadway in the area of Anthony Road at the railroad overpass, police said. Larson was found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, according to police. 

Thursday, Aug. 24

Zachary R. Levesque, 26, of 298 Division St., Fall River, was arrested on a 2nd District Court bench warrant following a traffic stop on Park Avenue at Morgan Street at about 4:40 p.m. Levesque was a passenger in the vehicle, and officers had prior knowledge of the warrant, police said.

Friday, Aug. 25

James Joseph Brooks, 20, of 418 Metacom Ave., Bristol, was charged with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct shortly after 7 a.m. According to police, officers responded to a location on East Main Road to investigate a report of a disturbance taking place. Officers determined that before they arrived, Brooks had pushed and shoved a 57-year-old Portsmouth woman.
