Three Tigers scored in double digits as the Tiverton girls basketball team torched Mt. Hope 51-34 in a Division 2 quarterfinal home game on Friday night. The 17-4 Tigers move on to play East Providence in the semifinals at Portsmouth High School on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
“We’re excited to be playing in the semis,” said Tigers’ head coach Mike Brigham. “EP will be a big challenge for us.”
Senior forward Jenna Del Deo led Tiverton with 15 points, Jah’niece Branch netted 12, Tori Murray scored 11, Cami Oliveira scored 9, Ellery Pacheco netted 3 and Tessa Purcell added a foul shot.
“The key was playing unselfish offense,” Coach Brigham said. “Having almost four players in double digits scoring, makes us hard to defend.”
Del Deo led the charge in the first quarter, scoring 6 of 15 points as Tiverton took a 14-8 lead. Oliveira buried a 3-pointer and netted a foul shot for 4 points. Murray and Branch each scored as well. Oliveira and Del Deo each drained a 3-pointer in the second quarter. Branch scored 6 of her 12 points, Murray scored 4 and Purcell added a foul shot at Tiverton improved their lead to 31-15 at halftime.
Throughout the physically played game, it was the Tigers stout defense that held the Huskies down.
“We installed a trapping defense for their best player Lilly DaSilveira,” he said. “She scored 19 against us last game. This time we held her to 5 points.”
Mt. Hope’s Catherine Frawley drained three 3-pointers to cut the lead to 41-27 after the third quarter. But Mt. Hope had no answer for the Tigers quad of Del Deo, Branch, Murray and Oliveira as they combined for 17 points in the second half.

The Tigers defensewill have their hands full with the Townies, who edged Smithfield 44-43 in quarterfinals. Harmony McDowell scored 14 points and has been hot as of late. Trinity Provencher netted 10 points from the paint and outside shooter Katherine Amado drained a pair of 3-pointers and a jumper for 8 points.
Del Deo and Branch will have to be at their rebounding best and limit the Townies second chances.
