There’s no word on whether it resisted but judging from the photo, it appears likely. Regardless, Tiverton police officer Nicholas Constantino was able to successfully free a seagull from a fishing line entanglement on the Sakonnet River Bridge Tuesday afternoon.
Police received a host of calls about the bird and Constantino, assisted by several other officers and dispatchers on the 4 p.m. to midnight shift, went out to the bridge to help. Wearing heavy gloves, he and other officers were able to grab the bird, free it from the fishing line, and brought it back to the station. From there, Animal Control Officer Victoria Sartini brought the bird to a rehabilitation center.
