The Tiverton tennis team beat Cranston West, 5-2, during a Division II home match on Monday afternoon. The win boosts the Tigers record to 4-2, and gives the team a chance to make the playoffs. The Tigers found themselves down 2-0, early in the match as first singles player, Luke Del Deo, and second singles player, Mike Keating, both lost in straight sets. Del Deo lost to Falcons Dan Meyerson, 2-6, 3-6, and Keating lost to Mason Harris, 2-6, 2-6. 

Tiverton proceeded to win the five matches to secure the victory. Third singles player Ben Pacheco and fourth singles player Aaron DeGala both crushed their opponents. Pacheco beat Falcons Jack Diorio, 6-1, 6-1, and DeGala had an even easier time with Jarred Angel, 6-1, 6-0.

“Ben played well at 3 singles,” said Tigers head coach Bill Phillips. “Aaron played his best match of the season.”

The winning quickly extended to the Tiverton doubles teams. First doubles team, Toby Harrison and Connor Nobrega beat Falcons Brailee Sanchez and Ethan Montaine in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Second doubles team, Tim Borden and Jared Rogers beat Falcons Aarush Kapoor and Julien Irizarry, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Third doubles team Evan Torio and Kyle Sousa beat Falcons Ethan Pessin and Isaiah Hudson also in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. 

“We are a young team with kids playing competitive tennis for the first time,” said Coach Phillips. “The kids are athletic and picking up the game quickly. The team is practicing hard and getting better each week. Our goal is to make the playoffs.” 

The team is getting close to their playoff goal, with one match at Middletown on Thursday, June 10th, remaining on their regular season schedule.
