Tiverton tennis wins two straight

The Tiverton tennis team beat Ponaganset/St. Ray's co-op 6-1  during a Division 2 home match on Monday. The Tigers also beat Westport 3-2 on Friday afternoon. The victories improve the team's record to 2-3, after losing 3 straight to start the season. 

John Mello, Ben Black, Jenna DelDeo and the first singles team of Ben Farley and Phil Kenney all won their matches. 

Mello the Tigers' second singles player, beat Mateus Longo Sebban 6-4, 7-5. Black, the third singles player, beat Jacob Freeborn 6-1, 6-3. Del Deo beat Joey Rekrat 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Farley and Kenney beat Josh Stockwell and Jake Webster 6-1, 7-6 (9-7). 

Tiverton first singles player Nolan Page fell to Christain Wagner 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 3-6. 

The co-op forfeited the second and third doubles matches. 

Tigers beat Westport 3-2
The Tiverton Tennis team beat Westport 3-2 during an away match on Friday afternoon to improve their record to 1-3. Third singles player Ben Black and the doubles teams of Jenna Del Deo, Ben Farley and Ben Simone, Nolan Halstead, won their matches for the Tigers. 
Black, the third singles player, beat Brady Silva of Westport in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Del Deo and Farley, the first doubles team, beat Zach Lopes and Kayki Sousa-Santos in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. 
Simone and Halstead, the Tigers' second doubles team, beat Will Forbes and Chrisyian Kosyer in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. 
First singles player Nolan Page fell to Westport's Brody Girara, 6-3, 6-1. Second singles player John Mello fell to Westport's Ryan Keane in three sets 7-6, 3-6, 14-12.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
