(Updated, May 21, 4:30 p.m.) An elderly driver careened into the front facade of the CVS Pharmacy on Metacom Avenue in Warren just before noontime on Thursday, May 15, leaving a gaping hole in the brick wall that stretched into the interior of the building.
Warren Police and Fire Department personnel were called to the scene after receiving the call at 10:52 a.m. The driver appeared unhurt and declined further medical attention.
WFD Chief James Sousa reported there were no other injuries and the incident was deemed accidental.
WPD Lt. Christopher Perrault submitted the following response to a request for further information: "Upon officers arriving on scene, it was found that a single vehicle had been accidentally driven into the front brick work of the store resulting in damage."
Perrault's report continued, "The elderly operator of the vehicle was examined on scene by Warren Rescue and refused any medical treatment. The collision occurred as the vehicle was being driven into a parking spot when (it) continued forward until striking the storefront."
No charges were filed against the driver intitially. Reached earlier this week, Tuesday, May 20, Perrault said the driver still as of yet has not been charged, pending further investigation of the matter.
The pharmacy continued to operate pending an assessment by the town building inspector, which was subsequently performed.
