Senior running back Brock Pacheco rushed for 160 yards, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion as the Mt. Hope football team ran out of time, falling to Coventry 36-33 in a high scoring non league game at home on Thursday night. Pacheco rushed for scores of six, six and three yards. The senior currently has rushed for 1275 yards for the season with the home Thanksgiving Day game against Barrington remaining. Junior quarterback Riley Howland running the option, rushed for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Howland played well, directing all five scoring drives. Senior running back Ben Colouro gained 86 yards, 49 on the ground and 37 through the air on two passes from Howland.
Mt. Hope dug themselves a 22-6 hole in the first quarter. But the gritty Huskies scratched and clawed their way back into the game as Howland scored before the end of the half to cut the lead to 22-12.
Pacheco who scored in the first quarter, ran it in again in the third to cut the lead to 22-18. Coventry scored again on their next possession for a 30-18 lead. In the fourth quarter, Howland scored from the three yard line. Jerry Pimental kicked the extra point to slice the lead to 30-25, but Coventry who never relinquished the lead, scored again to make it 36-25.
Howland directed yet another drive with Pacheco plunging into the end zone and again for the extra point to cut the lead to 36-33, but the Huskies ran out of time.
Mt. Hope made 49 tackles defensively. Junior linebacker James Thibaudeau tallied 14 tackles to give him 102 for the season. Junior defensive lineman Michael Lombardi made ten tackles against Coventry.
