Letter: Responding to “pro-life” letters

To the editor:

In regards to the "Pro-Life" opinions of Barbara and Donald from recent editions of the Times-Gazette, I suppose you've never known someone who has been sexually assaulted and forced to have the child of their rapist. I suppose you've never known a young couple who have had condoms not work/break. I suppose you are both financially able to support an unexpected child, unlike so many young couples in America today. I suppose you'd rather have your controlling little fingers all over the life choices of every woman in America. This isn't an issue of "left" vs "right". It's an age-old issue of people wanting to control others. The Old Testament God would love it.

If you want your money to go towards helping women heal and getting them away from controlling members of our society, go contact your local senator and urge them to vote YES on Bill S-2549 and contact your local representative and urge them to vote YES on bill H-7500.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
