Letter: Warren Tree Commission accomplishments are a team effort

To the editor:
The Warren Tree Commission appreciates two articles written in the January 22 Warren Times ("Council confirms 'voice of the forest' Largess as new tree warden," "Willow at Town Beach felled for fear of injury") and published on the front page that mention the roles and some of the achievements of the Warren Tree Commission.

Our mission is to oversee the protection, planting, maintenance and removal of l the trees in town. Our committee tries hard to make progress in those areas, including increasing the tree canopy.

The Warren Highway Department skillfully carries out much of the planting, pruning, and removal. Director Brian Wheeler has been very helpful regarding communication, planning, sharing information and working with us.

Also Town Manager Brian Sullivan has been easily approachable and cooperative in our dealing with him.

We appreciate this positive working environment in Warren.

It takes teamwork to enhance, increase and protect the tree canopy in our town.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
