Local attractions offer free admission for thousands this weekend

Posted

Newport County residents and employees of the hospitality industry from any location are invited to “Be Our Guest” and enjoy free admission or discounts at 19 participating attractions in Newport and Bristol Counties on June 21, 22 and 23.

The Preservation Society of Newport County is participating with free admission to The Breakers, Marble House, The Elms, Chateau-sur-Mer and Green Animals Topiary Garden each day, Kingscote on June 21 and Isaac Bell House on June 22 and 23. Visitors must show proof of residency or hospitality employment to receive free admission.

The offer excludes the limited, guide-led tours of Hunter House, Chepstow, Beneath The Breakers, The Breakers Third Floor Preservation in Progress and The Elms Servant Life, all of which require a timed ticket.

“Several times each year, the Preservation Society invites Newport County residents to be our guests at the mansions for free, and we are happy to extend the courtesy to people who work in the hospitality industry, which is so important to the local economy,” said Preservation Society CEO and Executive Director Trudy Coxe. “We hope they will take advantage of this opportunity.”

The seven Newport Mansions listed above offer self-guided tours; visitors are encouraged to download the free Newport Mansions app to their mobile device and bring their earphones or earbuds.

Meet our staff
Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
