According to the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, motorcyclists accounted for 15 percent of all traffic deaths nationwide in 2022, and there were 16 motorcycle-related deaths in Rhode Island in 2023. Although May is recognized as motorcycle safety awareness month, the rainy days of May have mostly kept motorcyclists off the road — so June might be a better time to look over some safety tips.
Here are last year’s tips from the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association:
1. Utilize extra space when starting and stopping.
2. Check your mirrors and blind spots.
3. Share the road, but never try to share a lane.
4. Remember that every motorcyclist is someone special to someone.
