The big stage returns to Bristol for 12 nights of music

The annual Bristol Fourth of July concert series is moving this year, but is still offering 12 days of music and a total of 22 bands playing all types of music. Things kick off on Saturday with an evenings of 1970s rock with Kate & The Mongrels (pictured) at 6:30 p.m. followed by Crushed Velvet at 8 p.m. Bring blankets and chairs.

WHAT: Annual Bristol Fourth of July concert series

WHEN: Nightly from Saturday, June 21, to Wednesday, July 2

WHERE: The upper field at Roger Williams University, Bristol

COST: Free and open to the public

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
