Warren police logs: 'Sick' possum was actually raccoon

Robert C. McVay, 36, of Riverside was charged with the false reporting of a crime, after police said he reported his car missing from the Italian American Club on Kelly Street, where he said he last parked it.

Police were called to Thompson Street for a report of a man and woman arguing; it was a custody issue, police said.

A Main Street woman reported cyber-harassment.

A Touisset Road resident called to report falling for a phishing scam.

A man called police after getting cut off while driving on Metacom Avenue, near Laurel Lane. He told police he was forced to swerve out of the other car's path, damaging two tires in the process as he drove partially off the road.

Police collected a bicycle discovered abandoned behind a Main Street establishment.

Police were called to South Cornell Avenue for a report of a barking dog. The owner was not home, but police left a message with the landlord.

A Davis Street woman called to report getting into an argument with her boyfrienx.

Tuesday, July 13

A man called police at 1:22 a.m. to report that several kids were running through yards on Harris Avenue. Police spotted five running into the woods near Overhill Road.

A caller complained that a woman was rummaging through recycling bins on Hope Street.

A fireworks call came in from Kenny Drive.

A Seymour Street woman called police at 5:13 p.m. to report that her ex was yelling at her from outside.

Two men were charged after police were called to Market Street just before 8:30 p.m. for a report of a disturbance. Charged with simple assault and/or battery and disorderly conduct were Zackary R. LaSalle, 25, of Dartmouth, Ma., and Nicholas J. LaChapelle, 26, of 278 Market St.

A caller asked for a police officer to respond to an argument on Market Street just before midnight.

Wednesday, July 14

Police looked for but could not locate whoever was reported screaming and yelling near the bike path on Federal Street just before 1 a.m. A few minutes later, police spoke to a man at Ellis and Market, who said he was singing loudly along with his phone.

Police were called to Touisset Road for a "matter regarding (a) chainsaw."

A car struck a deer on Market Street just after 11:30 a.m.

Police spoke to employees of a Miller Street establishment over a seating issue.

Jeffrey Bright, 50, of Cumberland, was charged with driving with a suspended, revoked or canceled license, first offense, after police pulled him over on Market Street at 4:33 p.m.

A caller alerted police to a dog locked in a car on Water Street at 6:03 p.m. An officer noticed that the windows were cracked and the dog had water.

A Barden Lane woman called, unsure whether the item she received in the mail, and left on her porch, had been tampered with or damaged in transit.

An Ellis Avenue caller reported a possibly injured possum. Police checked it out and noted that it was a raccoon and appeared to be healthy.

Thursday, July 15

A man called 911 and said he wanted to speak to someone. Police called back, but got no answer.

Police were asked to check on the well-being of rabbits on Hanley Lane.

A shoplifting complaint came in from Miller Street.

Police responded to Wood Street and restored the peace after receiving a call about a disobedient child.

Mynor Alfredo Perez, 24, of North Providence, was charged with driving without or on an expired license, second offense, after he was pulled over on Market Street at 4:31 p.m.

A man was arrested after police received multiple calls about a man yelling and throwing trash barrels on Main Street just before 7:30 p.m. Damien M. Gemma, 42, of Providence, was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and also arrested on a bench warrant from Third Division District Court.

A caller came in to headquarters to report a man jumping in front of his car on Main Street. He was wearing a Miami Dolphins hat, he said.

A Main Street man called for help after an insect crawled or flew into his ear.

Friday, July 16

Adrianna M. Shaw Cardoso, 25, of Cranston, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, BAC unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled her over on Market Street just before 2 a.m.

A woman called to report that while she was on the phone, she heard yelling in the background. Police checked it out; the sound may have been a TV in the background.

An Arlington Avenue resident reported ongoing harassment from a neighbor.

An Arlington Avenue man called to report that his girlfriend had just been beaten up by another woman.

Saturday, July 17

A caller told police that there was a man outside a Main Street business who appeared to be "out of control." The call came in just after 12:30 a.m.

An Almeida Avenue man told police there may be a rabid raccoon in his trash barrel. Police looked, and there were two — but both appeared to be healthy, and they were released.

A caller told police a car was driving extremely slowly on Main Street.

A fireworks call came in from Nobert Street and shortly after, from Joyce Street.

A caller asked to speak to an officer about a disagreement he'd had with a skateboarder on Campbell Street.

Neighbors complained about a loud party on Taddy Avenue just before 11 p.m.

Police told them to quiet down.

Sunday, July 18

A Main Street woman called police at 12:25 a.m. to report a man sleeping in her yard. Police said the complaint was unfounded.

A Wood Street woman said kids were running in and out of yards in the area at about 3:30 a.m. About 40 minutes later, a similar call came in from Wheaton Street.
