BRISTOL/WARREN — The Mt. Hope High School boys' soccer club ran its 2024 season opening run of form to eight games unbeaten after the Huskies hammered host Hope, 7-0, Tuesday night, Sept. 24, in a Division II outing in Providence.

Mt. Hope scored a pair of goals in the opening 40 minutes, then broke the game wide open by adding five tallies in the second half.

"Nothing really stood out tonight. They just played a great game," MHHS head coach Tyler Shepard said of his Huskies, who improved to 5-0-3 at the time. The win was the fourth in a row for the locals.

Mohsin Khan led the Mt. Hope offense, scoring a brace while Aidan Hudak, Diego Gonzalez, Maddox Canario, Gavin Avilla and Rocco Minnella each scored one goal apiece.

Thomas Loiselle had two assists. Hudak, Khan, Canario and Avilla had one apiece.

Girls' soccer
Lincoln High ended its season-starting losing streak by recording a 3-0 victory over the visiting MHHS girls' soccer squad in a Division I outing September 24.

The Lions had dropped their first six outings to start the year. The Huskies fell to 3-4-0 in the league at the time. Emily Moran was credited with eight saves in the Mt. Hope net.

Cross country
The MHHS cross country teams headed north to Pawtucket's Slater Park for their latest Metropolitan Division meet with the hosts from the Tolman/Shea co-op, perennial league and state power LaSalle and Providence Country Day.

The Huskies won two of three outings in the boys' competition. Mt. Hope lost to LaSalle, 18-45, but shut out to Tolman/Shea 15-50, and also defeated PCD, 20-43.

Jackson Cicchinelli was once again the top finisher for the locals. The junior clocked a time of 16 minutes, 32 seconds on the 3.1-mile layout to place fourth overall.

LaSalle runners placed 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 to earn the sweep of the meet.

Next in for Mt. Hope was Tyler Scarborough, who ran a 17:49 to finish 11th. A heap of Huskies followed in places 15-19, respectively. Jacob Lopes ran an 18:05, Andy Charest an 18:27, Jackson Lopes an 18:43, Gavin Stigall a 19:08 and Dylan Shaw a 19:12.

Shaw's time did not count towards the five scoring places. Also not in the scoring spot, but still running solid times were Alex Deal in 22nd at 19:26 and Dylan Scarborough in 23rd at 19:33.

The Huskies saw their record improve to 3-3-1 in Metro duals at the time.

The Mt. Hope girls, running the same 3.1-mile course, shut out both Tolman/Shea and PCD by the 15-50 counts and hung tough with LaSalle, though losing 21-38.

The Huskies, who saw their record move to 6-3 in Metro duals, were led by Jessica Deal, who finished second overall with a time of 18:05.

LaSalle's Caroline Teriato was race winner in 17:51. Her Ram mates also finished in places 3, 4, 5 and 8-12 to help their sweep the meet.
