Carolyn Columbia Cody, 97, Westport

Westporter lived her entire life here

Posted

Carolyn Columbia Cody passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at the age of 97. She was the wife of the late William P. Cody.

Born at home in 1925 to Frank Peter Columbia and Amber Earle (Hammond) Columbia, Carolyn lived in her Westport Point home her entire life.

After graduating Westport High School, Carolyn received a degree in physical therapy from the MA School of Physiotherapy and later a bachelor of science from Roger Williams University. She worked at a few hospitals before starting the PT program at Union Hospital (now Charlton Memorial Hospital) and continued there until her retirement.

In 1967 she married the love of her life, William. Together they traveled to Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Virgin Islands, eventually making St. Croix their second home.

Carolyn was a talented and social person. She loved gardening, painting, pottery, basket weaving, refinishing furniture, local history, sailing, playing cards and dancing. She belonged to several groups and volunteered for many local events.

She is survived by her nephew, Wayne Columbia.

She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Columbia, and nephews, David and Steven Columbia.

Carolyn will be dearly missed by her cousin and lifelong friend, Richard Earle, and his wife Christine.

As Carolyn would say, “so long for now.”

Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, Westport.
