A craftsman and carpenter, he will be sadly missed

Posted

Jay Robert Carmichael of Westport, Mass.,, born in Fall River on April 11, 1942, passed away peacefully at St. Anne's Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, after courageously battling a long illness. Jay is survived by his beautiful, loving wife Sharon Vermette Carmichael, married for almost 60 years, along with their five children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a sister, several cousins, as well as his lifetime friend James Butler, Sr. of Westport.

Jay worked as a craftsman carpenter all his life, where his work was respected and admired. Jay enjoyed puttering in his garage, playing cards, riding his motorcycle and lawnmower, helping others whenever possible, country music, feeding the birds on his deck and playing with his dogs. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him as Mr. C.

To honor Jay’s wishes there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
