Joseph W. McGee of Adamsville passed away on July 5, 2021 at the age of 77.  He was born in Fall River, Mass., in 1944.  He was the son of the late Joseph J. McGee and Antoinette (Levesque) McGee of Westport, Mass.

He was a very hard worker all his life, sometimes held three jobs a day to support his family, never would borrow a dime from anyone.

He was an auto body worker, delivered for Lees Oil of Westport, lobsterman at Westport Point, security guard at Newport Hospital for Wells Fargo, his proudest one of all was being a security guard at the New York Yacht Club Harbor Court in Newport.  He started when they opened in 1988 and worked there for 29 years, most of the time seven days a week until 2017 when illness forced him to retire.  He was a diehard Red Sox fan all his life.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Constance McGee of 57 years; truly dedicated son Richard McGee of Little Compton and Joseph W. McGee Jr. of Middletown; a brother, Leo McGee; four sisters, Yvette Lemieux, Pauline White, twin sister Antoinette Schwerak and Yvonne Earley; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

There are no services at his request.

Donations may be made to: Little Compton Fire Department, 60 Simmons Rd., Little Compton, RI 02837.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
