Police chief: Ttattoo helped ID suspect

Westport police have identified a suspect believed to be responsible for a break-in and theft at a Hix Bridge Road business early last Wednesday morning.

Police Chief Christopher Dunn confirmed Monday morning that a man who matches the description of the alleged thief is currently being held on an unrelated charge at the Bristol County House of Correction. He said identifying characteristics, including a tattoo on his right hand, helped ID the suspect.

Surveillance footage from the business shows the bearded man, wearing light-colored clothes and a Boston Red Sox baseball hat, inside the business just before 1 a.m. Wednesday. Employees told police he made off with a cash register.

Chief Dunn said police are in the process of bringing charges against the individual. The case is being handled by Detective Turner Ryan; his telephone number is (508) 636-1122.
