Westport police — uptick in traffic stops, but no arrests

Monday, March 3

Callers reported road hazards on Main Road at 11:17 a.m., State Road at 3:50 p.m. and Robert Street at 4:58 p.m.

A caller from Blue Heron Run reported property damage at 5:24 p.m.

A 911 caller reported a disturbance on Sycamore Lane at 7:37 p.m.

A 911 caller reported suspicious activity on Sunrise Drive at 11:53 p.m.

Police pulled over 21 vehicles over the course of the day and issued eight citations, warned 11 drivers and assisted two others.

Tuesday, March 4

A Highland Avenue resident complained of identity fraud at 1:17 p.m

Police tried but were unable to serve a restraining order on Sodom Road at 5:44 p.m. and 9:21 p.m.

Animal complaints came in from Sodom Road at 9:17 p.m.

A caller from Old County Road reported suspicious activity at 10:25 p.m.

Police pulled over and warned two drivers over the course of the day.

Wednesday, March 5

A Sodom Road resident was served with a restraining order at the police station at 1:21 p.m.

Police were asked to do a well-being check on Ridgeline Drive at 3:48 p.m.

A 911 caller reported road rage in Portsmouth, RI at 6:29 p.m., and police directed the caller to police in that town.

Police tried but were unable to serve a restraining order on Ridgeline West Drive at 7:59 p.m.

Police pulled nine drivers over during the course of the day. All but one, who was warned, were cited.

Thursday, March 6

Police served a restraining order on Sodom Road at 3:39 a.m.

Police were informed of a vehicle repossession on Wendy’s Drive at 7:27 a.m.

A noise complaint came in from Sanford Road at 1:04 p.m.

A caller on Tickle Road reported a civil dispute at 1:32 p.m.

A West Beach Road resident complained of larceny, forgery or fraud at 4:14 p.m.

A caller from Old County Road reported a suspicious person at 8:18 p.m., but police could not locate the issue.

Police pulled eight vehicles over over the course of the day. Three drivers were warned, and five cited.

Friday, March 7

Animal complaints came in from Jiggs Street at 7:41 a.m.

Town crews removed road hazards called in from Main Road (8:46 a.m.), Union Avenue (9 a.m.) and Forge Road (9:08 a.m.).

Residents reported neighbor disputes on Narrow Avenue (10:28 a.m.) and Hix Bridge Road (1:28 p.m.).

Animal complaints came in from Orlando Avenue at 11:04 a.m.

A 911 caller asked police to help keep the peace on Drift Road at 1:47 p.m.

911 callers reported road rage on Main Road (3:24 p.m.) and State Road (3:37 p.m.).

Police tried but were unable to serve warrants on Meadow Road (6:30 p.m.), Kim Drive (6:41 p.m.), Drift Road (7:07 p.m.) and Pine Hill Road (7:18 p.m.).

Police pulled eight vehicles over over the course of the day. Five drivers were cited, two were warned, and police assisted one other.

Saturday, March 8

Police responded to a disturbance on Old County Road at 2:22 p.m.

A Shirley Street caller reported larceny, forgery or fraud at 3:51 p.m.

Police pulled six drivers over over the course of the day. Two were warned, three cited, and no action was taken in one instance.

Sunday, March 9

A caller from Forge Road reported suspicious activity at 6:41 a.m.

A 911 caller reported a disturbance on Sodom Road at 9:09 a.m.

A 911 caller reported a brush fire on Horseneck Road. The call was transferred to the fire department at 7:21 p.m.

Animal complaints came in from Bayberry Drive at 8:24 p.m.

Police pulled three drivers over over the course of the day. All were cited.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
