Westport's south end loses power Monday afternoon

Did you lose power Monday? If so, you’re not alone.

A substantial portion of Westport’s south end was left without power for about an hour and a half Monday afternoon, after Westport experienced what Eversource deemed an “unanticipated interruption” in service. A spokesperson could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.

Police chief Christopher Dunn said dispatchers started receiving 911 calls and other alerts about the outage around noon. Power came back on around 1:30, he said.

“We have no idea what caused it,” he said. “It was pretty much the whole south end — Division Road, Drift Road, Main, Lee’s was out. Thankfully it wasn’t longer.”

Westport emergency services, including the police and fire departments, were unaffected.

The high school did lose power, superintendent Thomas Aubin said, but the outage was minimal — only about five minutes.

“It happened during lunch break so that made it a little more complex,” he said. “But it was only out five minutes,” and the school’s generators also kicked in briefly, he said.
