Empty bottle of Fireball found at the accident scene

Posted

Barrington police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 114 last week and later charged one of the drivers — East Providence resident Catia A. Carreiro — with driving under the influence of liquor-first offense, .15 or greater.

Read about arrests stemming from the recent Aquapalooza.

At about 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, police received multiple calls for an accident on Route 114, just north of the White Church Bridge where the road splits into separate lanes of travel.

When officers arrived on the scene they found two vehicles involved. Police spoke to Ms. Carreiro, who was allegedly slurring her words. Officers said they could also smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Ms. Carreiro and saw numerous empty and full nip bottles. Police said it also appeared that Ms. Carreiro, 29, was trying to hide some of the nip bottles between the seat cushions in her car.

A witness to the accident said she saw Ms. Carreiro's vehicle swerving badly on Route 114, strike the curb multiple times and also hit the guardrail before swerving into the other lane.

Police said Ms. Carreiro consented to take a breathalyzer test — she registered .220 and .197 on two tests, well above the .08 limit.
