Eagles host LaSalle on Thursday

The Barrington High School girls tennis team had three matches last week and won each match 7-0. The Eagles defeated Cranston West on Oct. 3, Middletown High School on Oct. 4, and Cumberland on Oct. 5.

Barrington Coach Polly Danyla said Ava Koczera-Kasem has been playing very well at number one singles and Sadie Spector has been very strong at number three singles.

Danyla said Zeynep Abul and Addy Friedman, Barrington’s number one doubles team, has a very good chance at the state tournament.

The Eagles were scheduled to play at East Greenwich on Tuesday and will be home against LaSalle on Thursday.

Barrington’s record is 4-1, while LaSalle stands atop the Division 1 at 8-0.

Girls soccer

The Eagles celebrated two wins last week — they defeated South Kingstown 1-0 and East Greenwich 2-1.

Against South Kingstown, Barrington held the upper hand in the first half.

“This lived up to the old soccer adage that it’s a game of two halves,” said Barrington Coach Martyn Hollands.

Barrington had the better of the first half and created numerous scoring chances.

The Eagles broke the scoreless tie when a shot by Bailey Duncan came back off the post and deflected off a South Kingstown defender and into the goal.

South Kingstown came out strong in the second half and pressed the Eagles back into their own half for long periods of the game.

“However, we dug in and came away with a well-deserved win,” Hollands said.

Against East Greenwich, Barrington had the majority of possession and opportunities in the first half. This pressure was finally rewarded when Ellie Donato stooped low at the far post to head home a corner kick from Estela Uddin-Alves.

East Greenwich scored early in the second half to even the score, but Barrington continued to press forward and create chances.

The goal scorer turned provider when she crossed a ball in from the right to Duncan, who kicked it into the net.
