Letter: Source of climate change in doubt

Posted

September 15 editorial “Face Facts; Climate Change is real” requires a rebuttal: few doubt that the average temperature appears to be increasing recently.  The earth’s past history has experienced this warming (and cooling) phenomenon many times, Ice Age, and the existence of Diatoms (sea creature shells or skeletons) found in Arizona are evidence of past examples.

What the unproven fact is that the measured temperature increases correlate with the increase profile of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  Quite a few years ago, the politically driven so called grant/dollar driven atmospheric science community presented some data on graphs which supported their long term climate prediction computer models.  This data set was later shown to be fudged as was discovered in email communications within the community.  The data was unequivocally shown not to correlate with the computer models; nor with the observed temperature dynamic records.

Further, the Astronomy community has continually shown that the temperature is rising also on the planets Mercury, Venus and Mars.  The hypothesis or theory for thihs is  maybe the sun is putting out more energy lately.

This current politically and grant driven “Global Warming or Climate Change” argument is just that.  Another method for the progressive government to gain more control over the population through taxation, regulation and wasteful spending “green $”.  In the 1970’s, the issue with mid western power plants was toxic emissions creating an acid atmosphere; that has been remedied with stack scrubbers etc.  This CO2 theory is attempting to be applied similarly to the toxic issue.

This political argument concerning Global Warming or Climate Change is convoluted and is similar to the immigration issues.  The argument with the warming is not whether it is getting warmer, but what is causing it.  There has been no auditable, unbiased objective evidence relating the level Carbon Dioxide concentration with temperature increase.  Similarly, there have been no significant issues with legal immigration; however the liberal press and progressive politicians chose not to differentiate these issues; both issues use a similar political philosophy.

These above statements can be easily confirmed with or from older news releases on this subject; such as the hockey stick fiasco.
