Mr. Kenneth J. Marshall, 73, of Marshall Court, Bristol, died peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Donna A. (Rufo) Marshall, his wife of 50 years.

Born in Fall River, Mass., and a lifelong Bristol resident, he was a son of the late John P. and Anna C. (Tamburro) Marshall. Kenneth was elected to the Bristol Town Council in 1986, serving six years with the last two years as council chairman. He was appointed to the Bristol Planning Board in 2004 and served until just last year. He co-chaired, along with Harbor Master Joe Cabral, the building and installation of the Rockwell and Church Street docks, which was instrumental in raising revenues to the town while keeping it affordable for the residents of Bristol.

In 1990, he was the chief marshal of the Fourth of July Celebration and was a life member of the 4th of July Committee, serving as the parade chairman for four years.

In 1993, he was recognized by the Bristol Democratic Town Committee for his community service.

Ken was instrumental in bringing back American Legion Baseball to Bristol and as manager, bringing the teams to five division championships and becoming state champs in 1982 and 1983.

Ken was an accomplished musician, playing with numerous bands and most recently with Mixed Emotions. He enjoyed singing and playing both his keyboard and saxophone.

Following his retirement, Ken loved to winter in Florida and enjoyed his new friendships there. He joined the Venice Isle Men’s Glee Club, having a lot of fun with the guys. He always enjoyed singing and playing his sax in the Venice Isle Variety Show.

Above all his citations and awards, Ken loved his family with all his heart. His wife, sons and grandchildren were his life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Wayne D. Marshall, Keith J. Marshall (Shelly) and Kenneth J. Marshall, Jr.; four grandchildren, Emily Rose, James E., Jake K. and Nathan C. Marshall, all of Bristol; and a brother, Edward J.
