Letter: Bristol is lucky to have women devoted to public service

Posted

I spoke recently with one of our state representatives who has been personally attacked by Concerned Citizen-wannabees. One would think that falsehoods and slander is OK in the trashy newspapers but should have no place in our civilized, little town of Bristol.

The acronym ACAB might well refer to a new medication or a new rock-group for all any of us know and may as well be the collegiate name of a Greek fraternity.

All I know is that we are very lucky to have some distinguished local citizens, particularly females, who are compassionate and understanding, willing to devote their time and energy to state public service. Instead of trying to make their tenure in office unbearable and demeaning, we should be applauding their efforts on our behalf.

It is all the more surprising when these attacks are emanating from ex-servicemen who their current Commander-in-Chief has labelled “suckers and losers.” Try to play nice if you want to get our attention at the ballot box, or we will end up with only deluded conmen and crooks in public office.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
