To the editor:
Regarding Mike Proto’s recent letter about guns. You underestimate the power of prayer. This evil is the result of removing God from our country, our schools and most importantly the lack of basic Christian morals when raising children.
You also underestimate the will of a, as you say, deranged individual. You think that criminals or deranged individuals follow laws? They will buy illegal guns or steal them if possible. Is the root cause the gun or the gunman? Think about it.
No one wants to fight for victims of mental illness. That’s too hard to fix. Gun laws are only a part of the problem. You have to look at the whole picture and make changes. The sale of illegal guns, the red flags of a child heading to derangement, mental illnesses and last but not least school security.
These are new times with new dangers. All of this needs to get addressed together for success. And it takes a village and a country to come together. Look at the big picture and not single out one problem area. And yes, meanwhile, pray for the country and the leaders to get it done.
God and prayer are a powerful weapon. Use it.
