Local author's book explores when Christmas was (almost) canceled

Posted

Although it somehow already seems like a distant memory at this point, it wasn’t too long ago that the holiday season was wrought with worries over not being able to gather with friends and loved ones.

Local author and Bristol native Jodi Leffingwell remembers that time well, and it was the inspiration for her newest book, “When Christmas Came to Town,” which creates a fictional, heartwarming story out of events inspired by real life that happened right here in Bristol.

“Join Santa and his elves as they face an unexpected challenge just months before Christmas,” Leffingwell describes. “Due to the global virus outbreak, Santa must consider canceling Christmas, but a chance visit to Hope Street in Bristol, Rhode Island, sparks a heartwarming idea. With the help of a kind man, Santa decides to bring his workshop to the quaint New England town, allowing children to safely share their Christmas wishes from outside, turning it into a magical Christmas experience for everyone. Amid masks and social distancing, Hope Street becomes a beacon of joy and hope, proving that even in difficult times, the spirit of Christmas can endure. This heartwarming tale showcases the resilience of the holiday spirit and the power of community, offering a message of hope during challenging times.”

Leffingwell, who has authored three books prior to this, was in Bristol over the weekend at a pop-up event to spread the word of her newest work. She also participated in a reading of the book at the Bristol Coast Guard house on Friday evening.

“When Christmas Came to Town” released in November and is available at at this link.
