Lynn and Larry Walsh stand on the beach behind their Bayview Avenue home in Portsmouth. They took their inflatable dinghy out after realizing a woman had jumped from the Mt. Hope Bridge Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 29. The woman was rescued near the large bridge abutment in the background at left. Before reaching their destination, Mrs. Walsh jumped off the dinghy to make room for a Rhode Island State Police trooper, who was swimming toward the victim. Mrs. Walsh swam safely back to shore.
