Tiverton man critical after crash Friday evening

Tiverton police believe speed and alcohol contributed to an accident Friday night that left a Tiverton resident in the hospital in critical condition.

Police and fire crews were called to the area of 506 Crandall Road just before 10 p.m. for multiple reports of an accident. Upon arrival they found a 2006 Acura RSX in the yard at that address; the driver, Austin Joh Medeiros, 24, of Tiverton, had already been removed from the car by bystanders. He was quickly transported to Rhode Island Hospital by emergency crews.

Witnesses said the Acura was driving at a high rate of speed north on Crandall, near Blueberry Lane, when it left the road and struck a telephone pole, and then continued into the yard at 506 Crandall.

Police said speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors. The accident remains under investigation by Officer Stephen Parrillo, a member of the Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team, ad there was no word Monday on any potential charges. If you have any information regarding this accident, contact Officer Parrillo at sparrillo@tivertonpoliceri.com
