Two straight cheerleading titles for Tigers

Tiverton repeats as Small School state cheerleading champs

The Tiverton Tigers cheerleading team scored 169.25 points Saturday to bring home a second consecutive state cheerleading championship in the Small School Division. Competing at the Providence Career & Technical Academy, the Tigers edged second place St. Raphael which scored 162 points.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth High School finished second to Tolman in the Medium School Division.

It was a remarkable performance for Tiverton Coach Susan McDermott’s squad. After winning its first ever title last year, the team lost several talented seniors to graduation and, at the outset anyway, had considerable ground to regain. Saturday, though, while some of the competition missed stunts, the Tigers, led by senior Captain Lilly Rapoza, consistently handled theirs well.
