Ovide “Joe” Yergeau Jr., 83, the son of Ovide Yergeau Sr. and Lydia Proulx Yergeau, passed away on Dec. 1, 2015 in Largo, Fla. He was born in Warren on March 3, 1932, and was married to Sally McCarron Yergeau for 34 years.

Mr. Yergeau served in the Army National Guard from January 1951 to 1959. He was employed by the Kaiser Aluminum Corp. in Bristol, Mutual of Omaha, and was a salesman for Barry Pontiac in Newport, RI for many years, retiring in 1994. He then worked at Toyota of Newport until 2007, when he moved to Florida with his wife.

He leaves his children, Patricia Pine of Largo, Fla. and Anthony Pine of Fort Myers, Fla.; his son-in-law, Pul Donnelly of Portsmouth, RI; his six grandchildren, Dustyn and Nicholas Donnelly of Rhode Island, Devin and Alec McCoy of Florida and Madison and Lauren Pine of Florida; his brothers, Anthony and Francis Yergeau of Warren RI and William Yergeau of North Carolina. He was the father of the late Cindy Donnelly of Portsmouth and also leaves many nieces and nephews.

His service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 in St. Jean Baptiste Church, 324 Main Road, Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
