Dog missing after man jumped in Warren park

Police are looking for a suspect and a lost dog after a man was injured in an assault at Jamiel Park Sunday night.

Warren police said the victim was walking his dog Eva in the park just before 10:30 p.m. when he was approached by a tall black male who appeared intoxicated. The man, who the victim said was unfamiliar to him, asked him for a cigarette lighter and quickly became agitated, striking him twice in the face. Police said the victim fell to the ground and his assailant came after him. As the two tussled on the ground, the assailant bit the victim on the arm before getting up and running off. In the struggle, the victim’s dog, Eva, broke loose from its leash and ran away.

Deputy Warren Police Chief Roy Borges said Monday that detectives are investigating the incident, have an idea of who the suspect is and hope to make an arrest in the next few days. The town’s animal control officer is looking for the dog, he added.

On Tuesday, the victim, Ray Alexandre, said he is beside himself at the loss of Eva, a shih-tzu chihuahua mix he has had since she was a pup. If you see her, he asked that you call him at 252-1367.
