To the editor:

We are told by our elected officials not to worry too much about higher taxes to pay for this excessive cost, since 83% of this amount will be paid by the State of Rhode Island. Oh, really? And who might that be paying for that part other than ourselves? Do people move to Bristol and Warren because they seek a top quality school building for their kids? Not very likely.

Most of us recall a time not so long ago when the State had enormous unfunded pension liabilities and was close to bankruptcy. Had it not been for some financial wizardry by Gina Raimondo and Seth Magaziner as Treasurer, Rhode Island would have been in receivership. They are no longer in charge at the Statehouse. Will some other magic spare us once again at a time when interest rates are three times higher than then?

Can we count on our local Bristol Warren School Board leadership, mostly all products of a mediocre Bristol educational system to keep our Town solvent? My advice as we vote on this question is, don’t bet your house on it.
