The Mt. Hope Masqueraders are performing their spring musical this coming weekend. Aptly enough, it’s Disney’s “High School Musical.”
The story is often considered a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, and centers on two juniors from rival cliques whose competition for the lead role in the school’s musical causes much drama at the school.
The Masqueraders, fresh off their win at the State Drama Festival earlier this spring, are presenting a large cast. Chief among the actors are senior Philip Pontes, who plays the lead role Troy Bolton; freshman Sophia Ferolito, who in her first production is playing fellow lead Gabriella Montez; Abby Phenix as Sharpay Evans; Michael Viveiros as Ryan Evans; Jake Brassard as Chad Danforth and Jenna Goulart as Taylor McKessie.
Mt. Hope Acting Coach Nick Mendillo said he’s excited to stage the kid-friendly play, which was adapted from the made for TV Disney movie:
“This production is a fun story that has large characters and extremely catchy songs,” he said. “You’ll find yourself dancing in the aisles.”
The Masqueraders will present four performances of “High School Musical”: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 9, 10 and 11, at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Hope Performing Arts Center, and Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. in the performing arts center. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors, and $15 for adult general admission. There will be a 50/50 raffle and concessions.
