A few stopped motorists waved 'Thank You' out their windows Wednesday afternoon when a good-sized snapping turtle finally made it across Market Street, thanks to a guy with grocery bags on his hands and many patient drivers.

Drivers in both lanes stopped as the turtle decided to go for it. The southbound lane was hidden, but the driver who stopped in the northbound lane turned on the hazards, slid on the white bags like mittens,  got out of his SUV and  guided and protected the turtle as it slowly made its way across.

The turtle got a gentle shove every now and then to point it in the right direction, and it finally made it to the safe green grass in front of Magnetic Seal about 2 p.m.

The man took off the bags, got back in his car  and drove away.
