Warren's East Bay Printing nears 50-year anniversary

Posted

In a few more months, East Bay Printing & Copying will be celebrating its 50th anniversary, and according to Melissa Carbone Soares and Steven DaSilva, each of whom has played a vital role in its success story, business has never been better.

The brainchild of the late Anthony Carbone, the business, located at 601 Metacom Ave. in the Ocean State Plaza in Warren, has a storied history.

“My dad [Tony Carbone] started this business in 1974 when it was originally located on State Street in Warren,” said Soares. “Then the business was moved to Main Street and in 2006, it was relocated to its present site on Metacom Avenue.”

At that time, Alan Albergaria was brought into the fold as a “silent partner” when Tony retired. And, he turned out to be a great asset to the business.

“I can’t stress enough what Alan meant to the business,” said Soares. “He was such a professional…He started the business with just three employees, and it eventually increased to 27 employees. When my dad retired in 2006, we moved here to Metacom Ave with five people.”

Now, it’s just Melissa and Steven DaSilva running the show.

Tony Carbone died in 2020 when he was 74 years old, but left behind a legacy that was tough to duplicate.

“He was a great business man and a big Republican,” Melissa recalled. “And, he loved politics.”

Those who recognized Tony’s prowess as a businessman always knew exactly where he was coming from. But, he was accomplished in so many more areas. He devoted many hours to a variety of organizations, including the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce, where he served as vice president. He also helped establish the East Bay Mental Health Center in Barrington and served as its director and member of the Executive Board.
Tony Carbone was also a beloved member of Warren Rotary, where he served as a director, past president, and helped spearhead the annual Warren Rotary Club Quahog Festival on numerous occasions.

In 1990, he was named the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year”.

Now, Carbone’s daughter Melissa is carrying on his legacy in fine style.
With the assistance and knowledge of Steven DaSilva, who’s been with the company for 36 years now, East Bay Printing and Copying continues to flourish. With Melissa and Steven in control, the business is recognized as one of the best in Bristol County.

“We grew up with the times,” said Soares, “and now, we have full-color Canon presses. People have been very receptive to what we have to offer. All the organizations come to us, and we donate many things to events like the Warren Walkabout, East Bay Food Pantry, and Bristol County Lions Club, to name just a few.”

Asked if a special date has been set aside to mark the 50th anniversary of the business, Melissa said something almost assuredly will be done.

This company’s motto of “Fifty Years of Serving the Community” is what it’s all about, and you can bet the late Tony Carbone is smiling from ear-to-ear knowing full-well that the business he started 50 years ago is alive and well.
