The Barrington High School AfterProm needs your help.
The event, designed to keep students safe on prom night, is set for Friday, May 13. Organizers say the event needs volunteers to help with a variety of tasks, including decorating, running the games, donating baked goods and more.
Barrington school officials sent out a district-wide email on Wednesday morning calling for the volunteers to step up and help out.
“For AfterProm 2022 to be a successful and fun night for all it requires the help of many volunteers,” stated the email. “We invite everyone to volunteer and experience our amazing event — BHS and non-BHS family and parents, senior parents, BHS alumni, and even underclassmen can help with decorating.”
Following is a list of volunteer opportunities:
• Decorating: Begins on Thursday and continues until approximately 10 p.m. and begins again Friday morning and usually continues right up until the event begins.
• Check-in/phone calls: 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. to check in the seniors.
• Casino dealers: 11 p.m. until around 3:30 a.m. No experience is needed.
• Food: 11:30 p.m. until around 4 a.m., with 2 to 3 people staying until 5:30 a.m.
• Game volunteers: 11 p.m. until around 3:30 a.m. to help supervise the games
• Clean-up: Begins work around 5 a.m. and usually finishes up by 8 a.m.
• Baked goods: Send in dessert items for the night of the event

The Barrington High School AfterProm was established in 2001, and has been around longer than any other AfterProm event in Rhode Island.
“Our event could never take place without all our volunteers (too many to count!) and our volunteer committee members who have been working tirelessly on fund-raising, planning, and preparations for the past year,” stated the release.
“Your volunteer support is what ensures that Barrington AfterProm will be around for future senior students.”
