An unidentified person stumbled across a bag filled with cash outside the Barrington Shaw's Supermarket on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

According to Barrington Police, the person found a bank pouch containing more than $10,000 in cash. The person brought the money into the market and handed it over to an employee, police said. Store officials then contacted Barrington Police.

An older man later contacted police and said he had lost the money. Police checked the man's story and then reunited him with his money.

Police said they were concerned the man had withdrawn the money from his account as part of a scam targeting elderly residents, but the man said he was using the money to buy a car.
