The Barrington Land Conservation Trust recently received a legislative grant which will support the organization’s ongoing efforts to preserve open space and educate the public about local natural resources.

The legislative grant totals $2,500.

"This grant makes an enormous difference to our organization, which is powered almost entirely by volunteers," said Cindy Elder, executive director of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. "We wouldn't exist without the support of the community. It's wonderful to know that our elected leaders believe in our work."

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust owns and manages hundreds of acres of conservation property in Barrington. 

Representative Jennifer Boylan recently met with land trust volunteers to deliver the grant.

“It's my pleasure to support an organization that does so much for Barrington's natural spaces and to promote stewardship and conservation in the community,” said Rep. Boylan. “Thanks to all of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust volunteers who donate time and energy to this worthy cause.”

Members of the Land Trust's Student Stewardship Team for high school students aged 14 to 18 met recently with Rep. Boylan. Like the adult team, students do trail maintenance, remove invasive plants, plant native trees and shrubs, and conduct clean-ups. They also assist with website design, photography, writing and other projects.

Rep. Boylan (District 66) collaborated with Representative Jason Knight (District 67) and Senator Pamela Lauria (District 32) in recommending the grant for the land trust.
