Barrington Police were involved in three separate bicycle-related incidents last week.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, a person called police to report a suspicious condition. The caller told police he left his bicycle outside the Shaw’s Supermarket and when he returned to it a short time later, he discovered that someone had tampered with it. The caller told police someone had tried unsuccessfully to steal his phone and water bottle from the bike. The caller then offered police a description of a suspicious person spotted near his bike — a heavyset man wearing a gray shirt. No one was charged.
On Wednesday, July 31, a Barrington resident told police her child’s bicycle was stolen from outside the Starbucks in the shopping center. Police searched the area for the bicycle but were unable to locate it. A short time later, the juvenile who took the bike came into the station with a parent and told police where the bike was — in the woods behind the Barrington Senior Center. Police retrieved the bike and returned it to its rightful owner.
On Monday, July 29, a Northwest Passage resident stopped into the police station to inquire about a stolen bicycle. The resident asked if police had picked up his bicycle — he was not sure where or when the bike had gone missing. Police let the resident check out the collection of bicycles they had picked up. The resident said his bike was not there.
