Barrington’s 10U All Stars win ‘Konk’ tournament

Barrington rallies for 10 runs in fifth inning, wins 12-10

The Barrington Little League 10U Majors All-Star team was crowned “Kings (and Queen) of the ’Konk” on Sunday night after a dramatic 10-run fifth inning. Barrington beat Swansea Little League 12-10 in the championship game. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning due to darkness.

Lena Armstrong pitched four-plus innings and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks. Hudson Lang earned the win out of the bullpen.

Barrington set the defensive tone early with Sam Donatelli making two key catches on the run in right field in the first inning. Jack Harding got things started offensively for Barrington in the bottom of the second with a leadoff triple down the right-field line. He scored two batters later when Will Glass singled on a hard line drive to left.

The game looked like it had slipped away from Barrington after Swansea scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth and took a 10-2 lead. But Barrington's comeback rally started immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a single by Lang. He scored two pitches later on Reid Raia’s single to right field. Barrington batted around and tied the game at 10-10 when Lang drove in Armstrong on a double over the left fielder’s head.

Raia got the game-winning RBI on a single just past the second baseman. Barrington scored one more run before umpires called the game due to darkness.

Earlier action

Barrington beat Taunton Western Little League earlier on Sunday in the semi-final game 13-9. Taunton Western won the Massachusetts District 6 10U championship earlier this summer. Caden Corcoran and Glass led the offense, combining for six RBI and three runs scored in the game.

After an opening round loss to Taunton on Friday, Barrington bounced back on Saturday morning with an 8-0 win over Swansea. Raia threw a complete-game shutout. Later that afternoon, Barrington run-ruled CLCF 15-0 in three no-hit innings tossed by Lang and Harding. Terry Nickell caught the majority of the innings during the tournament and was behind the plate for both shutouts that Barrington pitched on Saturday.

Jake Guerra had three hits on the weekend and scored four runs. Joseph Antonelli — playing up on the 10U Majors team after helping the 9/10U Minors All Stars win the Ron Silva Tournament — hit .667/.833/.333 and scored four runs. Corcoran batted .533 with eight hits and nine RBI during the tournament.

The Barrington 10U All Stars went 7-3 over the course of the summer.
