BHS AfterProm looking for volunteers, donations

Event takes place this Friday night and Saturday morning

Organizers of the annual Barrington High School AfterProm event are looking for volunteers.

“Our decorating team has so much to accomplish in little time,” stated an email from the organizers. “The more volunteers we have helping makes for faster and easier work for all! AfterProm 2024 cannot happen without the hundreds of community hands needed to pull off an event of this magnitude.”

The event relies upon the “Pay It Forward” approach, asking parents of the district’s younger students to step up and pitch in. Other residents are welcome to volunteer also.

The tasks include setting up and decorating for the big event, which takes place inside Barrington High School, and cleaning up after the party. The BHS AfterProm runs from 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17 to 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

“This fantastic even is designed to keep our seniors and their guests entertained and safe on what is traditionally a high-risk night,” stated a flyer for the event. “BHS will be transformed with entertainment, music, games, and amazing prizes. All seniors are invited and encouraged to attend, whether or not they attend the prom.”

There is no admission fee for the BHS AfterProm, which is the oldest AfterProm event in Rhode Island. It relies entirely on donations and fund-raising.
