It had a little bit of everything — a Miranda Lambert hit, a song by Katy Perry, and even a duet featuring a bag pipes and a snare drum. 

The Barrington High School Music Department hosts three coffeehouses each year, one in the fall, one in the winter, and one in springtime. The most recent coffeehouse was deemed a huge success.

The coffeehouses offer a live-music performance opportunity for singer-songwriters, students who sing popular music, students who write their own compositions, and groups that don't get to perform at school concerts. It also opens the door for funny performances. 

Students sign up to perform and the school’s audio production class works the audio for the event. Students must audition before one of the music teachers. A schedule is put together, and the event takes place in the BHS cafeteria. 

“These have been really popular!” wrote BHS music teacher Barbara Hughes. “Students can sit and listen with their friends and support each other. Parents and friends come too.”

Each event has a $5 entrance fee which includes food and drinks.
