EAST PROVIDENCE — The Riverside Post 10, ATC-sponsored Junior squad returned to action earlier this week, adding a pair of victories and avenging its lone loss to date in the 2023 Rhode Island American Legion Baseball League season.

The locals improved to 9-1 in the RIALBL standings following a pair of wins over R&R Construction Post 7 of Newport sandwiched around a 6-1 win over Post 39 South Kingstown.

Post 10 has won four games in a row since falling to R&R two weeks ago by a 6-4 count. Riverside followed up with an initial victory over Post 39 to close out last month, winning by a 4-0 count on June 30.

Back in action last week, the locals were winners over Post 7 on the road 4-2. R&R scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, but Riverside answered immediately in top of the second with four runs. With one out, Nolan Lorenz reached on an error at short. JJ Renaud walked. David Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lorenz scored on a Gavin Palombo fielder's choice grounder. Aiden Martins drove in Renaud with a base hit. Will Haggerty walked to force in Murphy with the second run. Palombo came around on Oliver Andrew's fielder's choice.

Connor Marley started the game on the mound and picked up the win after going four innings. Ben Hellene, James Lynch and Haggerty each threw a scoreless relief inning. Haggerty faced four batters to collect the save.

The latest win over Post 39 came in South Kingstown on Monday, July 10. The next night at home at Pierce Field, Post 10 rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to win 5-4.

Against SK, the locals scored twice three different times in the contest which ended after five innings due to fog. Hellene went all five frames on the hill, allowing just the one run off an error and a single in the bottom of the fifth.

In the second, Renaud was hit by a pitch with one out. Ben Humm singled then stole second to put both runners in scoring position. John Vaughan brought one in with a ground out. Max Correiro plated the other with single. In the third, Haggerty walked to lead off the frame, went to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a base hit by Lynch. In between, Andrews also walked and stole second then scored on Cole Kepner's fielder's choice. In the fifth, Haggerty hit a one-out double. Andrews walked. Lynch plated Haggerty with a sacrifice fly. Kepner drove in Andrews with a single.

Riverside headed back out on the road for a game in West Warwick against Post 2 on July 12. Post 10 is slated to play a two-game set against Gershkoff-Elmwood Post 20 next week, Tuesday night, July 18, at Pierce at 7:30 then Wednesday evening, July 19, at Cranston Stadium at 6.
